New to the Ranks

After a whirl-wind trip
that took us
over 2000 miles round trip,
my husband and I had the opportunity
to see this
young
man,
our youngest son,
become
one
of
America's
newest
soldiers.
He is now off onto his
next assignment
training for
Apache
helicopter
repair
and
maintenance.

Sew, Sew
proud of you, Private!!

Gotta a Hole in One?

First of all,
let me apologize
to the
person
who commented on my other posting of this tutorial.
I have had to go in
and redo the whole thing
because blogger
is acting stupid
and wouldn't
let me do any edits.
I loved your comment
and feel bad for having to delete it.

I realized that
jeans with holes in them
are a bit of a fashion
statement
these days.

However,
I was raised in a time
when one ironed their
blue jeans.

So, jeans with holes in them
kind of
go against my
grain.
(no pun intended)

I raised 4 boys.
Hand-me-downs were
just a way of life
when it came to blue jeans.
So patches were
common.
It was a part of
clothing
my family
without going broke.

Here's how I have always done it.
Try not to let your holes get too big.
However, I have patched worse and they've turned out okay.

What I've Been Up To - A Saturday Off

I work from home and
typically
I work Saturdays.

Not today.

No work available.

So....
that frees me up to do some other things.

Like laundry.

After a hard morning's work,
This is my proud accomplishment.

Empty laundry baskets.
A rare sight indeed.

Imagine my surprise when
the next time I passed through the
laundry room
I found this.
Seems my youngest daughter decided to clean her room.

Sigh.

At least I got a picture of the empty baskets
to prove
my morning
did count
for something.
~~~~~~~~~
On a more productive note,
I did manage to do a bit of mending.
Things have been sitting around
waiting for my attention because
of my latest adventures
in wedding sewing.
So, I mended my son's pants this morning.
and...
I worked on my daughter's wedding dress.
It needs a few alterations.
It's a lot of dress
and has proven to be rather
challenging.
All of this while listening to season 4
of Grey's Anatomy.
I have 6 children including 3 daughter-in-laws, 1 soon-to-be son-in-law and 1 grandson with another grandbaby on the way.
5. Who is your favorite blogger to follow and why?
I love stuph-from-steph but I follow so many others.  Her's is my favorite one just because it reflects a creative life with a really wonderful peek into her family
Inspiration Tuesday
With all this wedding stuff going on in my life right now
I felt the need to cleanse the palate, so to speak, and
do a little sewing for my Etsy shop
and maybe even
for
me.
So,
I've been trolling the internet for some inspirational
fabrics that speak to me
and tell me I
have to have them.
So much WONDERFUL
stuff available for spring/summer sewing and crafting.
I can't wait to get my hands on some of this stuff!
Ty Pennington has designed a new fabric line
called
"Impressions"
that are screaming for me
to create
something beautiful with.
Here is his collection in "Spice."
What a georgious tote bag these would make!
~~~~~
What's that I hear?
Browns and teals calling out to me?
Yes.
"Mariposa" by Marcus Fabrics
I've always had a weak spot
for browns, blues, creams.
This collection really caught my eye.
Love it!
Perfect for spring.
I'm seeing journal covers and zippy bags here.
~~~~~
I'm really paid attention when
this collection whispered my name.
"Isabella" by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake.
I don't know about you,
but this blue/lavendar color
is just to die for.
It caught my eye instantly.
Paired with black and green,
inspirational.
I'd love something for my bedroom in these fabrics!
~~~~~
"Suburbia Kitchen" by Robert Kaufman.
Who wouldn't want these fun, bright, happy
colors in their kitchen?
Love this collection.
I'm thinking apron, hot pads, placemats, napkins, coasters...
Or perhaps something fun
for a little lady in your life.
A sun dress perhaps?

~~~~~
"Groove" by Caleb Gray for Robert Kaufman.
Need I really say anything here?
Love, love, love the orange and pinks.
I'm seeing a new shower curtain loaded with ruffles.
Really wakes you up and gets you going, doesn't it?
All these photos are courtesy of the
one of my favorite Etsy shops.
These fabrics are a far cry from white satin, wouldn't you say?
Time for some color in my sewing room.
What are your favorites this spring?
